Course Description:
Basic introduction to techniques using Adobe’s Illustrator. Topics include object creation, integrating text and images, and very basic color fills.
Course Goals:
To learn the basic tools used to develop vector based images required for use in Web 112 (Typography).
Course Outcomes:
Upon successful completion, the student will have basic knowledge of:
- Adobe Illustrator user interface
- Import and edit vector based graphics
- Create and modify vector objects
- Create and edit type elements
- Create and manipulate color fills and gradations.
Required Materials:
USB Flash Drive:
This will be used to transfer Illustrator (AI) files as needed. 256MB or more recommended.
Internet Access:
Current E-mail account and FTP folder access.
Students are provided 20 MB on the SCCC server which can be accessed via FTP by using the same login and password used to access the computers on campus.

Assignments:
Students are responsible for assignment information given in class or posted on the class website.
Students are Required to E-mail a Link to Each Assignment to the Instructor by Using the Contact Page.
- Assignments are to be placed in a folder then compressed (ZiP-ed) prior to uploading.
- Assignments are to be uploaded via FTP to the student’s desired server.
How to submit Assignments.
You should be sending me a URL to a ZiP folder which contains the file worked on for each assignment.
These files should be Adobe Illustrator (AI) files.
Please Do Not Send Un-Zipped files.
Save copies of your AI files using proper naming conventions noted below
- LastName-mic102i-a0*(assignment).ai(extension)
- (replace * with appropriate value)
- Place the assignment file in (1) one folder named properly.
- LastName-mic102i-a0*(assignment)
- (replace * with appropriate value)
- ZiP folder and upload to your itc102i class folder that you created on your server space.
- To create a ZiPped folder on the Mac:
- Select desired folder
- File > Create Archive of “…” or Right-Click/Create Archive of “…”
- To create a ZiPped folder on the Mac:
- Send the entire URL to me using the Class Website Contact Pageform.
- A proper submitted URL should look like this:
- http://edison.seattlecentral.edu/~nname00/mic120i/LastName-mic102i-a0*.zip
- (replace * with appropriate value)
- The above is an example of an URL if you are using your student server space. You can use your own website as you please.
Evaluation Methods:
Final grade will be a culmination of Class Participation and Assignments:
- Assignments must be submitted by midnight of due date to receive full credit.
- Assignments are graded on the 4.0 scale.
- Assignments will be marked down 0.2 points per day they are late.
